Book an appointment →What is the Nexplanon implant?
Nexplanon is a thin, flexible rod about the size of a matchstick. It releases a low, steady dose of the hormone etonogestrel, which stops you releasing an egg and thickens the mucus at the entrance to the womb. Together that makes it one of the most reliable forms of contraception available — more than 99% effective.
Once it is in place there is nothing to remember: no daily pill and nothing to do before sex. It works for up to three years, and it is fully reversible — your own fertility returns quickly after it is removed.

Frequently asked questions
How long does the Nexplanon implant last?
Up to three years. You can have it removed earlier at any time if you change your mind or want to try for a baby.
How effective is it?
More than 99% — it is one of the most effective forms of contraception, because there is nothing you have to remember.
Does the insertion hurt?
We numb the area with local anaesthetic first, so most people feel only a small pinch and some pressure. The implant itself is not painful once it is in place.
Can I bring my own implant?
Yes. You can collect it from a pharmacy on prescription and bring it with you, or buy one in the clinic for DKK 1,300.
Do I need a CPR number or a referral?
No. YourGP is a private clinic — anyone can book, including visitors, students and expats without a CPR number.
What are the side effects?
The most common change is to your bleeding pattern — it may become lighter, irregular, or stop. We go through what to expect at your appointment.
Where is it done?
At our Strøget clinic, Frederiksberggade 1A in central Copenhagen, by a YourGP doctor.
