Symptoms we treat

  • Burning or stinging when passing urine
  • Needing to urinate often or urgently, with little coming out
  • Cloudy or smelly urine, or blood in the urine
  • Pain or pressure in the lower abdomen
  • Recurrent cystitis while travelling
Seek care urgently — same day here or via 1813 out of hours — if you also have fever, chills, back or flank pain or vomiting. These can be signs that the infection has reached the kidneys.

What happens at the appointment

1

Urine test

A dipstick test is done during the visit. When appropriate the sample is also sent for culture so treatment can be adjusted if needed.

2

Diagnosis and treatment

If a bacterial infection is likely, a short antibiotic course is prescribed through the clinic’s doctors and sent electronically to a pharmacy. Antibiotics are prescription-only in Denmark — pharmacies cannot sell them over the counter.

3

Advice

Fluids, pain relief and what to do if symptoms do not settle within two to three days.

Price and payment

A consultation costs DKK 1,000 and lasts 15 minutes. The price is fixed and shown before you book. You pay by card in the clinic after your visit and receive an itemised receipt straight away — most travel and international health insurance policies reimburse a GP visit.

If a laboratory test or a longer consultation is needed, we tell you the price before we go ahead. There is no prepayment and no deposit.

Frequently asked questions

Who will I see?

One of our specialist midwives — all women — with postgraduate training in gynaecology and ultrasound. The urine test is done during the visit, and any prescription is issued through the clinic’s doctors the same day.

Can I just buy antibiotics at the pharmacy?

No — in Denmark antibiotics require a prescription. A UTI consultation is short and can usually be done the same day; the prescription is issued through the clinic’s doctors.

Do you treat men with UTI symptoms?

Yes. UTIs in men are less common and are always examined more carefully, sometimes with extra tests.

Could it be something else?

Similar symptoms can come from thrush, a sexually transmitted infection or irritation. The midwife considers this and can test for STIs in the same visit if relevant.

I am pregnant — can you help?

Yes. UTIs in pregnancy should always be treated; an antibiotic that is safe in pregnancy is chosen together with the clinic’s doctors.
